
Mindfulness for Wellness: an introduction
6-week class on Saturdays, 10 am – 12 noon January 28 – March 4
at Yoga and Mindfulness Studio at Swansea Center for Psychotherapy in Swansea, Mass.
Do you want to connect to the beauty of every day experience, to live life more fully and be more present? Do you find that day-to-day busyness distracts you from appreciating what’s around you? Explore the practice of meditation, gentle yoga, and other ways of developing and sustaining greater awareness, compassion and presence in your life.
In this 6-week class, we will learn Mindfulness practices that deeply support our mental, physical and emotional health. Mindfulness allows us to live with greater awareness, wellbeing and ease, helping us to connect with authentic being.
Through simple, grounded meditations and gentle yoga, we will learn ways of listening to what matters. The intention of this class is to develop a daily Mindfulness practice that works for you. 1. Is Mindfulness meditation?
Meditation is a practice that helps us cultivate Mindfulness – which is a way of awareness, of noticing our experience in a compassionate way. One definition of Mindfulness is “Moment-to-moment awareness, on purpose.” Mindfulness helps us to gain greater wellbeing through paying deeper attention.
2. Do you need any experience to take this class?
No experience is needed to take this class. For those who have some experience, it can serve as a refresher course.
3. How will Mindfulness help me?
Mindfulness practice can help us to slow down, to notice, to be more gentle with ourselves, allowing us space to find greater clarity about what truly matters to us.
4. Is there homework?
Yes, as part of this class we will practice guided meditations at home daily, and short readings each week.
5. What are the provisions for COVID?
This is an in-person class. The class size is limited to 8, providing enough space for safer social distancing. No vaccination is required to take this in-person class, however we ask you to not attend if you are having any symptoms. Masks are optional for instructors and students.
6. Do I need to bring anything and how should I dress?
Bring a journal and pen, and wear loose comfortable clothing that is easy to move in.
7. Are any materials provided?
Audio files of all meditations and yoga sequences will be provided for home practice, plus a folder of handouts with written materials.
8. Where is the class located?
We’ll meet in the Yoga and Mindfulness Studio at Swansea Center for Psychotherapy.
9. What are the directions?
Yoga and Mindfulness Studio, Swansea Center for Psychotherapy, 25 Market St, Suite 15, Swansea MA, is about 15 minutes east of Providence, RI and 15 min west of Fall River, MA. From I-195, take exit 5 onto Market St, Rt 136. Go through the intersection, staying in the right lane, and turn right into the parking lot just behind Dunkin’ Donuts. The studio is located on the second floor of the brick building.
10. Is it handicapped accessible?
Yes. There is an elevator in the building with easy access for wheelchairs to the yoga studio.
